One Family's Journey with Vascular Dementia
I saw these two pictures on Facebook earlier today and they made me smile, because their messages resonated with me.
I read a lot just now about dementia and Alzheimer’s, it seems to be my new hobby. Gone are the days of horse riding and evenings spent at aerobics – I now spend a lot of my spare time reading, writing and researching about this awful disease and worrying about my parents. Oh…. and juggling a business, a hubby and three small children. Continue reading “Luck”
It hits you out the blue, when you’re least expecting it. I think that is one of the hardest things to try and manage – the sudden realistion and gut-wrenching thud of where we are and how bad things are, but also, how far we possibly still have to go. Continue reading “Nothing like your mum’s cooking!”
I have just spoken to my mum this evening, she has not had a good day, which I could tell the moment my dad picked up the phone and offered his attempt at a cheery “Hello”. It’s there, hidden in his tone of voice, in the way he sighs between words, in the way he sounds relieved to have someone else to talk to, even if just for a few minutes. Continue reading “The importance of a cuddle”
I wasn’t going to write anything today – for one, I feel utterly exhausted after a heavy weekend and then a gig with my band last night in a pub in Boroughbridge and for two, I don’t want to write too often and risk becoming stale in my thoughts or musings. Continue reading “Helping the kids cope”
So, it is officially now British Summertime. We all lost an hour’s sleep last night, meaning our nights will now be lighter and our mornings darker – I think that’s right, or maybe it’s the other way around? Mmmm….I have enough trouble thinking straight with the amount of sleep I normally get without a policy established 100 years ago robbing me of more shut-eye. Continue reading “The Safety of the Easter Bunny”
My day started this morning at around 6:50 with our youngest screaming out from her bedroom, “My wet Mummy!” it wasn’t exactly what I needed before a day at work and the kids’ last day at school before the Easter break. Continue reading “Just another day!”
I saw this quote the other day and it stopped me in my tracks with its raw and painful truth. She did teach me so much my beautiful mum and she is still teaching us – teaching us about the darker side of life; the pain and the hurt, the loss and the fear, but she is also teaching us to be strong and to never assume, to enjoy each other more, to value the good things more, to love each other more, to live better, to be better. Continue reading “What my mother taught me”
Time is a funny thing. When we’re young, we think it is endless and we have all the time in the world. I don’t really know at what point that stops, maybe it is a gradual awareness, a slow awakening to the fact that we are ageing. Continue reading “I believe in Magic”
