May 13th. In fact, to be more precise it’s Friday the 13th of May and it’s my mother’s birthday today. The kids and I have called her and left a message on their answer machine of us all singing happy birthday in four different keys. Then she has called us back, or to be more exact, Dad must have dialled our number and she said “hello” as I answered the phone. “Who is this?” she demanded, as I wished her a happy birthday again. Don’t it make my brown eyes blue!
I went for an eye test last week. After a few days of feeling a bit “weird” and slightly dizzy and spaced out, I decided that I must have some sort of brain tumour just behind the eyes and so needed an eye test to diagnose my inoperable growth. Continue reading “Don’t it make my brown eyes blue!”
What’s in a little red dress?
It’s hard to believe, but the temperature in Yorkshire hit the twenties over the weekend and was absolutely glorious yesterday. The kids went to school in their summer uniform, three loads of washing went out on the whirly gig and dried within just a few hours and I even wore a skirt (my razor had to work very hard and is now blunt!). Continue reading “What’s in a little red dress?”
The Visit
A few friends have asked me over the past week about “the visit” and how it went and I’m pleased to report that it actually wasn’t too bad. Mum and Dad came to stay last Friday night and then they picked up the new little dog on Saturday morning as arranged, stayed for lunch with me and my rabble and then drove the 200 miles back up to Scotland again. Continue reading “The Visit”
The Little Things
I remember thinking, as a teenager that I hated my Mum. She was strict and struggled to understand me. In my teenage angst I really felt like her sole purpose in life was to ruin my life and put an immediate stop to any fun I was trying to have. Continue reading “The Little Things”
“Sorry” – the hardest word?
Oh the joys of being a mother! Before I embarked on the journey of parenthood, I had visions of me in floaty summer dresses, picnicking on a warm summer’s day, my young children playing amicably around me as I made daisy-chains and chatted with other young mums, sipping some pink wine, or doling out beautifully made, nutritious sandwiches and fresh fruit. Continue reading ““Sorry” – the hardest word?”
My dad’s response to “Celebrating Success”
By my dad…..
Having just read Sarah’s long and most delightful note on her children’s success in tennis and football I have to disagree that she hasn’t “won” any prizes during her 40 years on this earth. She is top dog and a gold medal winner in her thoughtfulness and love to us both here in sunny and then snowy Scotland. Continue reading “My dad’s response to “Celebrating Success””
Celebrating Success!
It’s been a busy, successful weekend in our household. Archie and Martha had their end of season football presentations where they were awarded a medal each (now most prized possessions and must not, under any circumstances be touched by smallest, noisiest, grumpiest little sister). Continue reading “Celebrating Success!”
Pain – do your worst!
Today has been a strange day, for starters the sun has been shining in Yorkshire, the sky has been a bright, brilliant blue all day with no sign of even the smallest of white clouds and to top it all it’s actually been warm. Continue reading “Pain – do your worst!”
