I used to love coming ‘home’ and would immediately feel young and free from responsibility again, like the weight and pressure of adulthood; the burden of it was lifted, left at the door along with hastily discarded shoes, coats and bags of laundry. Continue reading “Home”
Alternatives!
So, today I popped my reflexology cherry. I jumped into the world of alternative therapy with both feet (literally) and spent an hour this afternoon fluctuating between a state of complete relaxation (where, to be honest I had moments of panic as I thought I’d started to nod off and drool) and overheating beneath two hot towels and a large hot stone (on my solar plexus, apparently). Continue reading “Alternatives!”
Friday the 13th
May 13th. In fact, to be more precise it’s Friday the 13th of May and it’s my mother’s birthday today. The kids and I have called her and left a message on their answer machine of us all singing happy birthday in four different keys. Then she has called us back, or to be more exact, Dad must have dialled our number and she said “hello” as I answered the phone. “Who is this?” she demanded, as I wished her a happy birthday again. Continue reading “Friday the 13th”
Don’t it make my brown eyes blue!
I went for an eye test last week. After a few days of feeling a bit “weird” and slightly dizzy and spaced out, I decided that I must have some sort of brain tumour just behind the eyes and so needed an eye test to diagnose my inoperable growth. Continue reading “Don’t it make my brown eyes blue!”
What’s in a little red dress?
It’s hard to believe, but the temperature in Yorkshire hit the twenties over the weekend and was absolutely glorious yesterday. The kids went to school in their summer uniform, three loads of washing went out on the whirly gig and dried within just a few hours and I even wore a skirt (my razor had to work very hard and is now blunt!). Continue reading “What’s in a little red dress?”
The Little Things
I remember thinking, as a teenager that I hated my Mum. She was strict and struggled to understand me. In my teenage angst I really felt like her sole purpose in life was to ruin my life and put an immediate stop to any fun I was trying to have. Continue reading “The Little Things”
“Sorry” – the hardest word?
Oh the joys of being a mother! Before I embarked on the journey of parenthood, I had visions of me in floaty summer dresses, picnicking on a warm summer’s day, my young children playing amicably around me as I made daisy-chains and chatted with other young mums, sipping some pink wine, or doling out beautifully made, nutritious sandwiches and fresh fruit. Continue reading ““Sorry” – the hardest word?”
Celebrating Success!
It’s been a busy, successful weekend in our household. Archie and Martha had their end of season football presentations where they were awarded a medal each (now most prized possessions and must not, under any circumstances be touched by smallest, noisiest, grumpiest little sister). Continue reading “Celebrating Success!”
Fewer friends, less drama
I saw these two pictures on Facebook earlier today and they made me smile, because their messages resonated with me.
Sisterly Love
My sister and I were up visiting the Crazy this week, laden down with bags, one travel cot, several pairs of walking boots (ever hopeful of a blustery Scottish walk), a very fancy highchair and a team of 5 lively children. Continue reading “Sisterly Love”
